The name “Tessera” (pronounced tes-er-uh) draws from the ancient art of mosaics, where a tessera is a single tile that, when combined with others, creates a magnificent whole. This concept perfectly embodies our approach – each component, each solution, each team member represents a vital piece that contributes to transformative outcomes for our clients.
Our logo features a distinctive red square at the beginning of the ‘T’, symbolizing that single tessera tile and a visualization of our #ITSTARTSWITHONE tagline. This represents our belief that meaningful transformation begins with a single idea, a single decision, or a single step that cascades into comprehensive change.
Our story began nearly 30 years ago, when our three founders—Russ Johnson, Tony Chojnowski, and Jeff Coombs—started their separate paths in technology. For almost two decades, they gained invaluable experience leading various technology companies, from systems integrators and cabling contractors to traditional consulting firms.
In 2014, Russ, Tony, Jeff, and two other founders disrupted the consulting industry by redefining what technology and security consulting should look like—uniquely combining strategic thinking with hands-on expertise. Over the next ten years, their firm grew to more than sixty consultants, driving meaningful change in education, government, and enterprise organizations nationwide.
Almost as a repeat of 2014, Russ, Tony, and Jeff’s journey revealed a new disruption waiting to happen—it was time to reimagine the traditional integrator’s model. The three founders knew that what they had spent decades building was done one piece at a time, a single tile placed on a canvas, not just by them but by the hundreds of people who shared this journey for nearly thirty years.
Tessera Technology Group represents every tile collected along this thirty-year journey—each experience, relationship, and lesson learned.
